Ralph William Gosnell, age 67 of New Salem, IL passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born November 30, 1956, in Pittsfield, IL to Ralph E. and Dorothy Workman Gosnell.
Bill grew up on a farm and continued to farm throughout his life. He attended Baylis schools and was a 1975 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Bill graduated from Quincy Tech specializing in Auto Body repair. Over the years he worked in several body shops and finished out his career as a body man at Heatons in Pittsfield. He later worked at Pace Industries in Monroe City and General Mills and he was currently employed at Knapheide. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting guns; especially machine gun shoots in Kentucky. He also bred and raised Norwegian Elkhounds. Bill liked spending time with friends and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with Tonia. Bill was a hardworking, quiet and somewhat onery man who dearly loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and son, Derek who fondly remembers riding 4-wheelers and attending the air shows with dad when he was growing up.
Bill is survived by son, Derek (Rebecca) Gosnell of LaGrange, MO; grandchildren, Daustin, Noah and Adi; brother, Clay (Glenda) Gosnell; sisters, Cheryl (Jim) Westfall and Sally (Donald) Ducey; and girlfriend, Tonia Jones of Monroe City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Dorothy Gosnell.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Gray Cemetery in New Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to be made to Educational Fund for Grandchildren. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
