Paula C. (Browning) Conger

Paula C. Conger, 71, of Summer Hill, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 6, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 27, 1954, in Pittsfield, Illinois, to William and Margaret (Back) Browning. Paula grew up in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1973.

Paula had a lifelong love for antiques and all things with a story to tell. Her passion began while working at the Stage Stop in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and grew stronger when she returned to Illinois. Eventually, she made that passion her career, owning and operating the Summer Hill Antique Mall. The store held special meaning for her—it was located in the former Back General Store, her grandfather’s store from the 1950s. 

Paula was a true antique lover at heart. She enjoyed hunting for unique pieces, especially pottery, and her excitement for finding something special never faded. She never passed up an opportunity to stop by an antique shop—often persuading Greg to take a detour or two along the way.

Paula’s greatest joy, though, was her family. She loved the years she spent at home with her daughter, and later, with her grandson. Those memories became some of her most cherished, and she often reflected on them with gratitude. In her later years, Paula found happiness in quiet moments at home—watching the birds, caring for her dogs, and spending time with her great-grandsons, Ross and Preston, who brought endless smiles and laughter.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Greg Conger of Summer Hill; daughter, Ashlea (Jon) Sander of Bunker Hill, Illinois; grandson, Dana (Justine) Lewis of Summer Hill; and great-grandsons, Preston and Ross Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Margaret Browning; her brother, Dana Browning; and grandparents, Ralph and Mary Back, and Buck and Fern Browning.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and per her wishes no services will be held. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
