Norita 'Rita' L. (Whitlock) Knowles

Norita ‘Rita’ Lynette Whitlock Knowles, age 60, of Baylis, IL passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024, at her home. She was born December 7, 1963, in Pittsfield, IL to George and Donna Spann Whitlock. Rita married Donald Lee Knowles on October 30, 1983, and he preceded her in death.

Rita attended Baylis Grade School and then went on to Pittsfield High School. Rita was a foster parent for many years and changed the lives of her many foster children. She loved making handmade quilts and was an avid gardener who canned much of the bounty from her harvest. She loved working the farmers markets with Don over many years.  Rita’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She loved making cookies with her grandchildren, and they will be left with the wonderful memories of helping Grandma in the kitchen.

Rita is survived by her children, Travis (Heidi Smith) Knowles, Terry (Catie) Knowles and Dustin (Krystal) Knowles, all of Baylis, IL; seven grandchildren, Trisha Knowles, December Wallace, Perseus Knowles, Tabbie King, Sawyer Knowles, Logan Knowles and Linkoln Knowles; brothers, George Whitlock and Doug (Annette) Whitlock; four sisters, Debra Booker, Teresa Lyons, Lori (Darin) Riffey and Regina Hecox; step-mother, Ginger Whitlock; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Donna Whitlock; husband, Donald Knowles; brother in infancy, Harley Whitlock; and brothers-in-law, Randy Lyons and Darrell Hecox.

Cremation rites have been accorded and graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Gray Cemetery in New Salem, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Baylis Fire Department. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
