Nancy M. Peebles, age 72, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on August 26, 1949, in Quincy, IL to Merle and Eleanore Kelley Lightle. She married Richard Peebles on April 12, 1974, at Payson Christian Church, and he survives.
Nancy graduated from Payson High School in 1967 and went on to attend Quincy College. While in school, she performed in the orchestra and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Reading. Nancy began and finished her teaching career at Pikeland Unit 10. She first worked at Baylis Elementary School and after its closing, she moved on to East Pike Junior High and then to the 3rd Grade at South School. Before retiring in 2005, she had moved on to Pikeland Community School where she taught Title Math and Reading. After retirement, she continued to substitute teach for several years. Nancy’s goal was to work until she had grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She reached her goal and she faithfully attended all of the events they participated in. She also enjoyed reading, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and playing the slots. Nancy was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and the Illinois Federation of Teachers. She and several other retired teachers formed their own group that often went out to lunch together. Nancy was always the life of the party, and her laugh was contagious. She often found it necessary to sing ‘Wild Thing’ at any time, place, or event. She will be missed for her caring and genuine nature among many more things.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Richard Peebles; sons, Todd (Jessica) Peebles of Milton, IL and Jonathan (Rylie) Peebles of Springfield, IL; daughter, Beth (Aaron) Greer of Wilsonville, IL; five grandchildren, Taylor Grace Peebles, Tripp Kessinger, Logan Peebles, Cannon Greer, and Callie Kaylynn Greer; brother, Merle Randy (Vickie) Lightle of Quincy, IL; sisters, Pam Kimlinger and Sally Lightle, both of Lompoc, CA; sister-in-law, Carla (Mike) Allen of Milton, IL; special cousin and friend, Mary (Chuck) Loos of Payson, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Hubert and Irene Peebles, and one sister-in-law Rena Peebles.
