Nancy Grogan Obituary

Nancy S. Grogan, age 71, of Apache Junction, AZ and formerly of Pittsfield, IL was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Thursday, August 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family following a double lung transplant at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. She was born August 18, 1953, in Pittsfield, IL to Edgar and Kathleen Mitchell Houchins. Nancy married John S. Grogan June 11, 1971, at Pittsfield Assembly of God Church and he survives.

Nancy was a 1971 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended University of Wisconsin for banking school and Gem City School of Business. She lived in Quincy for several years working at Motorola and as Church Secretary for Faith Assembly Church. Nancy worked at State Bank of Hull and then began her career with Farmers State Bank where she worked her way up the ladder serving as Loan Officer, Human Resources Director and Vice President, retiring after 30 years of service. Nancy was a member of Pittsfield Assembly of God where she served as a dedicated servant as a past Church Secretary, Youth Leader for over 25 years and was a persistent Prayer Warrior. She volunteered on many mission trips over the years to Poland, Hungary, Chile, New Zealand and Jamacia. Nancy was the first female speaker to train church planters in Poland after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Her pride and joy was her grandson, Jaxson who she always said, “He was her favorite person”. Nancy had a huge heart for others and was a loving and giving lady who had an enormous passion for mentoring the youth in her church, especially special family friend, Brad Riley who went on to become a minister. She was a member of Reign Makers which was a group of ladies across the country who shared and supported each other online about their faith and love of life; and was a member of Arizona Book Club. Nancy’s physical struggles never swayed her love for Jesus, she has now received her ultimate healing. Nancy had a huge impact on many lives and will be deeply and dearly missed by friends and loved ones near and far.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John Grogan of Apache Junction, AZ; daughter, Jona Grogan of Apache Junction, AZ; grandson, Jaxson Grogan; brothers, Donnie (Sharon) Houchins and Dick (Rhonda) Houchins; sisters, Mary (Bill) VanHoose and Dona (Bryce) Gleckler; in-laws, David (Pat) Grogan and Gary (Bonnie) Grogan; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Kathleen Houchins; and nephew, Kevin Kattelman.
