Michael Douglas Newman

Michael Douglas Newman, age 77, of Barry, IL passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born February 27, 1947 in Quincy, IL to Arthur and Barbara (Brotherton) Newman.  He married Kathryn Hinch on December 1, 1963 in Barry, IL and she survives.

Michael grew up in Quincy, IL before moving to Beverly, IL and after he and Kathryn married, they resided in Barry.  He was an owner/operator truck driver for 45+ years, receiving many safe driver awards for exemplary driving during that time. After retiring, he helped the Hart boys haul grain and taught Caleb how to drive farm trucks.

In his earlier years, Michael liked to camp and boat on the Mississippi river.  Later in life, he liked to tinker on his old Ford vehicles and take them to car shows.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, and loved his mother-in-law. Michael was quick witted, firm- but fair minded, non-judgmental and always ready to help out his family and friends.

He is survived by; his loving wife of 61+ years, Kathryn Newman of Barry, IL; son, Eric “Alpo” (Staci) Newman of Thornton, CO; daughter, Angela (Kent) Stahl of Camp Point, IL; grandchildren, Kendra (Zach) Goodwin, Rachel (Christian) Gillespie, Blake Stahl, Emily Newman ,and Josh (Sam) Newman; great grandchildren, Keenan Goodwin, Knoxleigh Goodwin, one more Goodwin in May, Averie Gillespie, Finley Gillespie, and Carson Newman; brothers, Steve (Beverly) Newman of Barry, IL, and Gary (Shirley) Newman of Lakeland, FL; and sisters in law, Janet Treadwell, Fidella Hinch, and Judy Hinch; brother in law, Roger Hinch and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by; his parents, Arthur and Barbara Newman; his in-laws, Bethel Hinch and Frances Dewees; sister, Patty Pittman; nephews, Joshua Hazelrigg and Joey Pittman; brothers in law, Bill Hinch and Gary Hinch; and sister in law, Rosie Hinch.

The viewing will be held, Friday, February 28, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:00 am at the chapel. The family requests casual attire. Interment to follow the service at Parklawn Cemetery in Barry, IL.  Memorials are suggested to Barry Fire Department or Barry Apple Festival Car Show.  Condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL will be handling the arrangements.
