Michael Lynn Bogan

 Michael Lynn Bogan, age 69, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, in Pittsfield, IL. He was born December 8, 1953, in Pittsfield, IL to Lyndell F. and Helen L. Wilson Bogan. He married Anita Slone (Wassell) and to this union they welcomed one son, Gavin.

Mike was raised in Barry, IL and graduated with the Class of 1971 from Barry High School where he was active in basketball and baseball. His teaching career started in Plymouth High School upon graduating from Illinois College, where he also played basketball. He would then teach history and P.E. at Griggsville High School for several years, leaving in 1989 but continuing to substitute teach; he loved coaching the baseball team and was proud to take his team to a few state tournaments! Mike then went to work at Heaton Chevrolet as a car salesman, spent a handful of years as Career Services Coordinator at Vatterott College and later worked with Steve Smith painting and then independently until his untimely death. Mike was an avid sports fan who enjoyed coaching baseball, refereeing basketball and followed not only local sports teams but Fighting Illini basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He never missed a Cardinal game whether it be in person, on the radio or televised. Mike loved to walk, play golf, listen to old time classic music and enjoyed a cold drink and good conversation with friends, making many new ones along the way. He was an energetic and outgoing guy who dearly loved his family and close friends and will be dearly missed for his friendly demeanor and kind smile.

Mike is survived by son, Gavin Bogan of Surprise, AZ; sister, Cheryl Wright of Traverse City, MI; niece, Monica (Jim Kurek) Cory of MI; nephew, Brent (Kathy Hansen) Cory of MI; great-nephew Jacob Cory of FL; and great-niece Chloe Cory of FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyndell and Helen Bogan.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Saukee Nation. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
