Maurice 'Frosty' White Obituary

Maurice “Frosty” White passed away on September 20, 2024, in rural Perry in the very same home he was born in 89 years ago.  He was surrounded by the comfort of family and was at peace.  He was born on February 24,1935 to Robert and Mary (Bradbury) White of Perry, IL.  Though the odds were against him at birth, weighing just 2 pounds and 13 ounces when he was born in 1935, Frosty lived a long and prosperous life and was a beloved member of the community.

Frosty attended Dexter School and later Perry High School, graduating in 1953.  He was married to his sweetheart, Patricia (Slight) White for 63 years and they were inseparable.  They have two children, Brian (Cheryl) White of Perry and Andrea (Dan) Holak of Godfrey, IL.  Frosty had two grandchildren, Erin Clayton and Payton White, and two great grandchildren, Alex and Austyn Clayton, which brought him tremendous joy.  He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary (Bradbury) White and his sister Wilma and husband Lyndle Waters and brother Dale and wife Elizabeth White of Perry.

Frosty lived his entire life in Perry, IL, where he farmed and drove a school bus.  He served in the Illinois Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He was a school bus driver for the Perry and Griggsville-Perry School Districts for 45 years and retired when he was 85.  He transported many generations of kids to school and likely told them all the same jokes.  Frosty was always quick with a joke or a funny story and was loved by the students on his bus routes and members of the community.

Faith and family were most important to him.  He was an elder at the Perry Presbyterian Church, where he attended service all his life.  He was a member of the American Legion, Jaycees, and Dexter Community Club.    He had a love of antique tractors, particularly John Deere 2-cylinders, and was a member of multiple tractor clubs.  He loved going to country music shows with many of his friends.  There’s no one who loved a Sunday drive that ended in a stop for ice cream more than Frosty.

Memorials are suggested to be made to the Dexter Community Club Memorial Fund where an American flag memorial will be placed to honor his love of Dexter and commitment as a Veteran or to the Perry Cemetery Association.
