Mary Jane (Wombles) Smith

Mary Jane Smith, age 69, of Barry, IL passed away on July 16, 2024, at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal, MO.  She was born on November 21, 1954, in Pittsfield, IL to Floyd and Bonnie (Emerick) Wombles. She married Bart Smith on December 3, 1977, in Summer Hill, IL at the residence of Floyd and Bonnie Wombles and he survives.

Jane graduated from Pittsfield High School and went on to receive her nursing degree from Passavant Hospital School of Nursing and her bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University. She worked as an RN for 17 years, as a director of Utilization Review for 2 years at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL and as the CFO & co-owner of Smith Agri-Service Inc. in Barry, IL for 27 years. Jane enjoyed reading, fishing with her husband and children, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Jane also served as an election judge and enjoyed donating her time every year to the Apple Dumpling Inn during the Barry Apple Festival. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Jane is survived by her husband, Bart Smith of Barry, IL; two children, Conrad (Adriana) Smith of New Canton, IL and Christina Smith; grandchildren, Anthony Smith and Savannah Smith of New Canton, IL; siblings, Cinda (Jim) Pettigrew of Tubac, AZ, Rick (Mary) Wombles of Clinton, MO, Tom (Debbie) Wombles of Pittsfield, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Bonnie Wombles; aunt, Dora Lee (Wombles) Claus; and brother, Jerry Wombles.

The family reserves their right to privacy and will have a celebration of life at a future date. Memorials may be made to the Barry Public Library or Barry Fire Department.
