Mary Etta Craven Dunmire, age 69, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. She was born on April 10, 1952 in Pittsfield, IL to Hulbert ‘Hub’ and Mary Olive McIntire Craven. Mary Etta welcomed daughter, Stacey in 1971 and later married Ed Dunmire and to this union, daughters Nikki and Sara were born.
She was a 1970 graduate of Griggsville High School and was of Christian faith. Mary Etta was one of the first employees at Pittsfield Walmart in the office and spent time as a volunteer EMT in Pike County. When her girls were young, Mary Etta attended John Wood, earning her Associates degree. After the girls were older she earned her Bachelor’s degree in social work at Western Illinois University, she was very proud of this accomplishment. She also worked for Bridgeway Family Services and later retired from PACT Head Start where she was the transportation supervisor. Mary Etta was a foster parent educator for DCFS for several years; she opened her home to several children as a foster mom, even while raising her own daughters. Her favorite hobby was spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She truly lived by the motto “what happens at grandma’s, stays at grandma’s!” Mary Etta was selfless and loved big, often described as feisty and sometimes brutally honest. She was always up for a road trip – anywhere! Mary Etta loved suprising people and would give her last dime to someone who she felt needed it more than her. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #420, Griggsville American Legion, and past member of Griggsville Fire Department Women’s Auxillary.
Mary Etta is survived by two daughters, Sara Martin of Pittsfield, IL and Nikki (Josh) Klatt of Pittsfield, IL; son in law, John Broyles of Griggsville, IL; eight grandchildren, Cady Klatt of St. Louis, MO, Ally (Chris Donaldson) Broyles of Royalton, IL, Micah Broyles of Griggsville, IL, Kile Martin of Pittsfield, IL, Carter Klatt of Pittsfield, IL, Kayla Martin of Pittsfield, IL, Ethan Broyles of Griggsville, IL and Kolton Martin of Pittsfield, IL; brother, Buster (Rose) Craven of Griggsville, IL; and her cats, Missy and Zoey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hub and Mary Craven; daughter, Stacey Broyles; sister, Betty Collins; and brother in law, Champ Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville, IL. The family requests friends and family attending dress casual and wear Beatles apparel if you have some!
