Mary Lee Wintjen, age 89 of New Salem, IL passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, at Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield, IL. She was born December 15, 1936, in Tacoma, WA to Otto Everett and Mildred Pauline Parks Williams.
Mary graduated from Tacoma Washington High School. She worked at a military base where she met her children’s father, and they relocated to Pike County. In addition to being a housewife, Mary worked at Brown Shoe Factory, for Carol Hoover in the Pike County Clerk's office for several years and later worked at Capital Records until her retirement. She was a member of Baylis Baptist Church and read her bible faithfully every morning. Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, spending time outdoors bird watching and working in her flower beds. She dearly loved her puppies, especially her Yorkie, Dolly. Mary will be remembered as a soft-hearted, giving, and caring woman who loved her family deeply and took delight in watching her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by children, Carolyn (Wade) Talley of Baylis, IL, Debbie (Eric) Hull of New Salem, IL, James (Dee) Wintjen of Griggsville, IL, and Sandy French of New Salem, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Embree, Nash (Laura) Butler, Donnie (Samantha) Hull, Chris (Ashley) Hull, McKenzie (Danny) Ballinger, Matt (Ashley) Baxter, Ross (Juanita) Butler, Nicole (James) Bedenbender, and Jamie (Courtney) Wintjen; twenty-five great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by parents, Otto and Mildred Williams; grandson, Zachary Hull; two great grandchildren, Michael Butler and Alex Embree; siblings, John Williams and Claudine Wilson; and son-in-law, Bill French.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Pittsfield Church of Christ. Memorials are suggested to be made to Baylis Cemetery.
