Mary Elizabeth (Hively) Puffenberger

Mary Elizabeth (Hively) Puffenberger, age 54, of Barry, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born June 1, 1968 in Pittsfield, IL to Raymond “Bing” and Dixie Hively.  She married Frank Puffenberger on November 7, 2005, and he survives.

Mary spent 22 years as a CNA/CPRA at Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL.  She was devoted to the residents, making sure they were transported for holidays and special events.  She was chairman of the Barry Apple Festival parade for over 12 years, and was honored with the Friends of the Community award in 2022.  She was also past President of NACHA and was named CNA of the Year in 2018.  Mary enjoyed spending time with her family playing cards and dominoes, and was known to be a little competitive.  She also liked watching Dirty Dancing.  Mary always made time for her children, grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews, who love her very much and will miss her greatly.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Frank Puffenberger of Barry, IL; two daughters, Krystal (John) Weaver of Bushnell, IL and Kara Puffenberger of Barry, IL; son, Klayton Allen of Barry, IL; two grandsons, Xandar Weaver and Quinton Weaver; two step sons, Danny Puffenberger and Sammy Puffenberger, both of Taylorville, IL; siblings, Deanna Dixon, Ray Hively, Shelly (Mike) Allensworth, Donna Hively, and Linda (Steve) Walker; her in-laws, Larry and Terri Puffenberger and Marchele Matherly; brothers-in-law, James Matherly and Brian Puffenberger; sisters-in-law, Alicia (Bobby) Lewis and Kaydee Matherly; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dixie Hively; son, Kevin Hively; brother-in-law, Ritchie Dixon; sisters, Laura Hively and Christina Hively; and father-in-law, Dave Matherly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Chapel.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
