Mary DalPozzo Obituary

Mary Margaret Dal Pozzo, 79, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and caring nurse passed away in hospice, surrounded by her family on Friday, December 1, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born in Tampa, Florida on September 9, 1944, to George Edward and Mary Josephine McGann. Mary Margaret was raised in Pittsfield, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1962.  She attended nursing school at St Vincent De Paul in St Louis, graduating as an RN in 1965.  Mary Margaret married Jon Ross Robb on June 5, 1965.  This union produced two children, Margaret Flynn and Christopher McGann Robb.  Mary Margaret was employed as an RN in Pittsfield, Hannibal, Quincy, and Barry.  She and her husband were very active in the former Pittsfield Theater Guild, headed by her husband.

After the death of her husband, the family moved to Hillsboro, IL.  She had married Mark Dal Pozzo, the director of bands at Hillsboro High School.  Mary Margaret continued to care for people in various nursing positions.  She worked with Alzheimer’s and dementia patients for most of her career and was proud to have developed the first downstate certified Alzheimer’s unit.

A few years after retirement, Mary and Mark moved to Tallula, IL to be closer to family.  Mark and Mary Margaret enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family.

Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George Michael McGann and James Raymond McGann, husband Jon Ross Robb, and numerous grandparents, aunts, and uncles.  She is survived by her husband, Mark Dal Pozzo, daughter Margaret Flynn LaVigne (husband Fred), son Christopher McGann Robb (wife Amy), grandsons Jon-Mark Robb and Tyler LaVigne, granddaughters Alex Cecil (husband Ryan) and Nikki Saunders (wife Chelsea).  She is also survived by great granddaughters Willow and Riley Cecil and Lillian and Madelyn Saunders.  She is also survived by her sister Kathleen McGann of Pittsfield, brother Patrick McGann (wife Jennifer) of Anacortes, WA, and brother David (wife Helen) of Huntsville, TX

Mass of Resurrection will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsfield, IL on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 10:00AM with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL. The Nursing Honor Guard Ceremony will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 3:50PM with a prayer service at 4:00PM, visitation will be held immediately following from 4:30PM until 7:30PM.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Jon Robb Fine Arts Scholarship.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
