Mark Hittner Obituary

Mark Adam Hittner, age 20, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at his home with his ‘Grr-Mom’ by his side.  He was born on June 15, 2002 in Jacksonville, IL to Cindy Hittner Reveal and Daniel Gratton.

Mark graduated from Pittsfield High School in 2020.  He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Darrel and Linda Hittner, and they ensured he lived an active and fulfilled life.  He had many joys in his life and many activities he loved to do.  These things include working, riding his bike, swimming, camping, taking boat rides with ‘Papa’ Darrel and collecting treasures from the neighbors that others considered trash.  He could always be found walking around town cleaning up the neighborhood.  Mark loved helping others especially raking leaves and shoveling snow with his ‘Papa’ Darrel and ‘Grr-Mom’ Linda and helping Uncle Don mowing, cleaning the garage, and sweeping.  When Mark lost his mentors, Uncle Kevin and ‘Papa’ Darrel, his Uncle Don really stepped in to fill that void.  Mark enjoyed keeping up with the weather reports, listening to Sunday morning church services on his radio every Sunday, and always liked knowing what was going on in the world.  He loved watching his favorite tv shows from Paw Patrol to The Andy Griffith Show and playing with his pets, Bob the cat and Molly the dog.  Mark learned to use his iPad and would text, call, and facetime, and use it to communicate with others.  He absolutely loved taking pictures of everything around him.   Mark was an all around good kid who brought a smile to so many people.  He was very helpful in whatever ways he could be and he was devoted to helping his ‘Grr-Mom’ after ‘Papa’s’ passing.  He also loved spending time with his mother, Cindy, who was always very proud of him.  They enjoyed playing Pacman together and watching TV.  He will be missed tremendously.

He is survived by his grandmother, Linda Hittner of Pittsfield; his mother, Cindy (Andrew) Reveal of Pittsfield; father, Daniel Gratton of Pleasant Hill, IL; aunts and uncles, Lisa (Steve) Wade of Sherman, IL, Julie (Dr. Tom Scandalis, DO) Scandalis of Frisco, TX, Susan (Don) Myers of Jacksonville, IL and David (Veronica) Leefers of O’Fallon, MO; and cousins, Amber McClelland, Ashley Wade, Jordan Duff, Zachary Duff, Kadin Hittner, Keaton Hittner, Maylin Hittner, Ryan Leefers, Jared Leefers, and Tristan Leefers.

He was preceded in death by ‘Papa’ Darrel Hittner in 2020, Uncle Kevin Hittner in 2018, and cousin, Macey Marie Hittner in 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.  Mark’s celebration will continue at Grr-Mom Linda Hittner’s home after the graveside.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Animal Shelter.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
