Marjorie L. Syrkel, age 81 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born November 20, 1944, in Pittsfield, IL to Charles H. and Mary McDonald Reeves. Marjorie married Leonard Syrkel and he preceded in death in 1993.
Marjorie was of the Baptist faith. She was a CNA her entire career, working at Couch’s Boarding Home, Eastside Healthcare, Barry Nursing Home, and was a caretaker for people in their homes. She loved to spend time outdoors fishing and planting her flowers each spring. Marjorie enjoyed puzzles, word searches, and adult coloring books. She cherished her family and time spent with them. Marjorie loved to torment her kids and especially loved it when they gave it right back to her! She was a hardworking and family-oriented woman with a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. She will be dearly missed by friends and family.
Marjorie is survived by children, Danny (Pam) Embree, Daisy (Richard) Rennecker, Debbie (Tom) Chaplin, James (Stephanie) Embree, and Ron Embree; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; sister, Judy Butler; sister-in-law, Marjorie Reeves; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Reeves; son, Don Embree; grandsons, Nathan Embree and Alex Embree; brother, Robert Reeves; and son-in-law, Danny Burnett.
Graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, March 27, 2026, at Gray Cemetery in New Salem, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
