Marion Jones Obituary

Marion F. Jones, age 74, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  He was born on March 5, 1949 in Louisiana, MO to Francis and Josephine Reeder Jones.  He married Doris Falls on July 20, 1968 and had three daughters.  He later married Linda Myers on August 11, 1990 in Pittsfield, and she survives.

Marion graduated from Louisiana High School in 1967 then graduated from Quincy Tech with a certification in welding and pipe fitting.  He went on to work for Hercules Inc. in Louisiana as a millwright and retired in 2003 after 37 years.  He and his wife, Linda, moved to Florida for five years and after deciding it wasn’t for them, moved back to Pike County.  Marion was of the Christian faith and he had many passions in life.  He loved riding his motorcycle and sitting in his chair watching Westerns.  He enjoyed traveling and although the destination was planned, the rest was rather spontaneous.  He was a big Civil War buff and visited many battlegrounds in the South.  Marion really loved music, especially the Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd.  He loved big and was a devoted family man raising his children, as well as a niece and 2 nephews, and later his bonus children.  He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.  Marion was very private, generous, and absolutely a kid at heart.  He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Aaron (Sarah) Adams of Quincy, IL, Melissa (Rule Alexander) Jones of Louisiana, MO, Angela (Scott) Watts of Nebo, IL, Annessa (Darin Ebbing) Chaplin of Pittsfield, IL, Laura (Billy) Kidd of Rockport, IL, and Amanda (Doug) Robinson of New Berlin, IL; twenty-eight grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Shirley Myers of Pittsfield, IL; sister-in-law, Joyce Bowen of Hannibal, MO; niece and nephews, Matt Crim of Summerville, SC, Judith Allen of Hannibal, MO, and Warren Crim of Hannibal, MO; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Josephine Jones; and father-in-law, Harley Myers.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  There will be no public visitation.  Interment will follow the service at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana, MO.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the American Cancer Society or Barnes Jewish Siteman Cancer Center.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
