Margaret Kay ‘Peggy’ Numann, age 85, of Griggsville, IL passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. She was born October 6, 1938, in Quincy, IL to George R. and Helen ‘Eslie’ Winn Anderson. Peggy first married Allen Smith and to this union Lori was born; she later married Lowell Numann September 30, 1978 at the Bethel Church and gained two daughters, he preceded her in death May 22, 1999.
Peggy was raised in Griggsville and was Griggsville High School graduate. After graduation she spent four years in Hawaii while her first husband was serving in the United States Army. Peggy moved back to Pike County and lived on the family farm in Perry and later moved to Griggsville. She worked for Trio Manufacturing and later went to work at DHS office in Pittsfield for many years before retiring in the late 90’s. Peggy loved to travel with family or her crew, enjoyed shopping both in person and later online, spending time crocheting, cross-stitching, doing puzzles and playing Mexican train. She was a wonderful baker and always enjoyed baking for her family and Christmas was her favorite holiday and she took delight in decorating with her Christmas village. She dearly loved her family and especially liked to spend time with her grandchildren, always making sure to have Nutty Bars on hand for them. Peggy was generous, full of life and you always knew where you stood with her; she will be dearly missed by friends and family.
Peggy is survived by daughters, Lori (Tony) Robertson of New Salem, IL, Vickie (Gary) Hilgenbrink of Quincy, IL and Marilyn Numann of Tennessee; grandchildren, Jessica Orr, Jennifer (Donald) Embree, Stephanie (Ryan) Spear, Brad (Crista) Pool and Brooklynn Hilgenbrink; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Landon, Noah, Casen, Rhonin, Angelica, Jordan, William and Grace; nieces, Rhonda Winek and Cindy Cutforth; several in-laws and cousins; and her crew, better known as ‘The Five Wild Women’, Janice Skelton, Mina Robertson, Estella Zilic and Rosanne Craven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eslie Anderson; brother, Robert; and three sisters, Betty Ann, Grace Helen and Marilyn.
Cremation rites have been accorded and Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Bethel Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Bethel Cemetery.
