M. Imogene Oliver

Mary Imogene Oliver, age 96, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living in Quincy, IL.  She was born on August 18, 1925 in Belleview, IL to Manuel and Verna Saunders Reed.  She married Gale Oliver on August 26, 1944 in her grandparents’ home in Calhoun County and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2010.

Imogene graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and then worked briefly in St. Louis.  After she met and married Gale, they moved to Pike County and she worked as a bookkeeper at Alexander Lumber for many years retiring at the age of 62.  Imogene was a devoted and longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church where she wore many hats.  She attended Sunday school as well as cooked for and helped with the funeral luncheons and in the past, she sang in the choir.  She was also a member of the Hospitality Committee and Women’s Missionary Union.  Imogene was a collector and loved anything to do with Christmas.  She was a great baker and was well known for her chocolate pies amongst her grandchildren.  She was strong and selfless and always spoiled everyone she loved without ever wanting anything in return.  Her grandchildren and church were everything to her.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Lori) Oliver of Quincy, IL; grandchildren, Kory Oliver of Wentzville, MO, Justin (Ashley) Wolf of Camp Point, IL, Kristin Martin of Quincy, IL, Johnny Bocke of Quincy, IL, Kyle (Jera Iams) Bocke of Quincy, IL, Nick Bocke of Quincy, IL, and Rachel (Nate) Wallen of Quincy, IL; great grandchildren, Harrison Bocke, Raeleigh Wolf, and Finley Mark Wallen; sister, Betty Ruyle of Jerseyville, IL; extended family, Karen Wolf of Quincy, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Oliver; parents, Manuel and Verna Reed; grandson, Mark Bocke; and siblings, Willis Reed, Nolan Reed, and Erma Graham.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.  Interment will follow the service at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Christmas Basket Program or Calvary Baptist Church.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
