Louis William Hoyt, age 85, of Barry, IL, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born June 26, 1937, to Henry Louis and Edith Morrow Hoyt in Detroit Michigan. He married Iva Eilene Winner on October 24, 1958 in Barry, IL. and she survives.
Louis attended school in Barry, IL and then left to work on the family farm. Throughout his life he worked at Stark Nursery, Brown Shoe Company for over 20 years, Tate Cheese, and as a janitor at the Barry school, retiring after 20 years in 2004. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Barry, serving for over 50 years.
He enjoyed camping, and hunting for deer and raccoon. He attended the Barry United Methodist Church. Louis was soft spoken but liked to talk to people. He loved children, and they loved him right back. He will be dearly missed.
Louis is survived by; his wife of over 64 years, Eilene Hoyt of Barry, IL; sons, William Louis Hoyt of Barry, IL, and Phillip (Shirley) Hoyt of Cabool, MO; grandchildren, David William Hoyt of Marshfield, MO, and Alisha (Kurtis) Kazimir of West Plains, MO; great grandchildren, Lewis Hoyt and Nova Kazimir; sister, Carol Ann Neff of Barry, IL; niece, Michelle Workman of Quincy, IL; and several cousins.
He was preceded by his parents, Henry and Edith Hoyt; daughter-in-law, Trena Mason; and friend, Ron Oitker.
Visitation will be 11:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 17, 2022 and service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL. Interment at Parklawn Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials are suggested to the Barry Fire Department and the Barry United Methodist Church.
