Leslie L. Lanier, age 71, of rural Perry, IL passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on January 3, 1951 in Pittsfield, IL to Melvin and Virginia Orr Lanier. He first married Mickie Sheppard and they had one daughter and later married Julie Scott Smith and two stepchildren came into his life.
Leslie graduated from Perry High School in 1969. He worked various construction jobs in different places including Naples, FL and Fairbanks, AK. He was a jack of all trades and was good with electrical work as well as building cars and collecting them. Later on, Leslie collected pollen and smut, cleaned and dried it, and sold it to pharmaceutical companies to create medicine. He was also a past Perry Township Road Commissioner for one term and was elected as a write in candidate.
He is survived by his daughter, Heidi Lanier of Columbia, MO; two stepsons, Jesse (Sarah) Smith and Justin Smith, both of Washington, IL; brothers, Gary (Kathy) Lanier of Roland, AR, Larry Lanier of Springfield, IL, and Mike (Sandy) Lanier of New London, MO; sister, Barb Lanier of Perry, IL; and Kala (Tarod) Deeder and Ben Cameron as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Virginia Lanier; and sisters, Alma June Lanier and Sandra Jo Kendrick.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Perry United Methodist Church and cremation rites have been accorded. After the funeral dinner, there will be a continuation of stories and celebration at IL Xtreme Whitetails (38841 Hwy 104, Baylis, IL). Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
