Leonard Stogsdill Obituary

Leonard Dale Stogsdill, age 74, of Griggsville, IL formerly of Green, KS passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  He was born on January 13, 1948, in St. Louis, MO to Odis L.D. and Jane L. Burkert Stogsdill.  He married Sandra Lund on July 26, 1968, and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2011.

Leonard served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 until 1969.  He was honorably discharged and went straight into the work force working as a mechanic until his retirement and was a longtime member of the Mechanics Union.  During the 1970s, Leonard lived and worked in Dupo, IL and later for Slay Trucking out of St. Louis and Big Wheels out of Kansas.  He eventually went into business for himself and founded Mechanics on Wheels.  In 1983, Leonard and Sandra relocated to Green, KS and they established their home, the ‘Big Blue House’ where most of the family gatherings, fish fry’s, barbeques, and country vittles took place.  All of the grandchildren grew up in that house as well, and Leonard served as a father figure to so many in the family.  He videoed most of the entire family from day to day and everyone enjoyed gathering together at the house to watch what he had documented.  Leonard was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved boats and motorcycles.  In the most recent years, he enjoyed watching tv and napping with his cat, Zena.  Leonard was everyone’s go to guy and would give the shirt off of his back.  He was kind of the knower of all things and a gentle giant.  He was dedicated to his family, and he will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his two children, Rowdan Ray Rossing of Green, KS and Lisa Lynn McCadden of Griggsville, IL; five grandchildren, Rowdy Rossing, Linden Rossing, Izic Stogsdill, Kara McCadden, and Madelyn Stogsdill; and sister, Brenda Rogers of Green, KS.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Stogsdill; parents, Odis and Jane Stogsdill; son, Leonard ‘Shane’ Stogsdill; granddaughter, Jenny Lynn Rossing; brother, Mike Stogsdill; Niece Darla Lund; cousin, Larry Stogsdill; and brother-in-law, John Lund.

Services will be held at a later date and cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
