Leona (Collins) Gratton

Leona Gratton, age 87, of Pittsfield, IL and formerly of Pleasant Hill, IL passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. She was born December 6, 1936, in Nebo, IL to Lyndle Birdie and Beulah Mae Tysinger Collins. Leona married James E. Gratton June 9, 1953, in Louisiana, MO and he preceded her in death December 30, 2012.

Leona grew up in Nebo and found her calling as a loving wife and mother. She was a devoted and dedicated member and prayer warrior of Full Gospel Church of Summer Hill. Leona loved attending church and bible study and especially enjoyed when the Sheppard family came out to sing. She enjoyed sewing, crochet and painting and was a talented musician playing both guitar and piano. Leona could often be found hanging out with Geneva Hill and together they distributed clothing to those in need. More than anything else, she took great delight in spending time with her family at family cookouts and gatherings and she will be dearly missed by all.

Leona is survived by sons, James Michael (Jeannie) Gratton, Gary Lynn Gratton, Terry Dean (Brandi) Gratton and Daniel Leo Gratton; daughter, Legena Louise Gratton; grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Gratton, Jeremiah Aston, Faith (Brock) Maverick, Brooke Gratton and Christopher Gratton; great grandchildren, Tyler Gratton and Skyler Gratton; brother, Rodney (Phoebe) Collins; and sisters, Vella Ruble, Janie Shipman, Janet Stroud, Janet Sydney, Evelyn Collins, Martha Lou Hill and Sandy Davidson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyndle and Beulah Collins; husband, James Gratton; sons, Lyndle Everett Gratton in infancy and Ricky Gratton; grandson, Matthew Gratton; and siblings, Barbara Patton, Ruth Ann Evans, Betty Foster, Dorothy Teany, Leroy Collins, Mike Collins, Johnnie Bill Collins and Tonna Long.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 9, 2024, at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
