Larry Joe Coffey, Jr., age 53 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025. He was born December 28, 1971, in Pittsfield, IL to Larry Joe and Dona Blacketer Coffey.
Joe began his school years in Barry and then went on to attend 2nd grade through graduation in Pleasant Hill. He attended truck driving school out of state and came home to work for Gainey Trucking. Joe also spent time working for Best Systems until he enlisted in the United States Army in January 1997. He served in Kuwait during Desert Storm and after his honorable discharge, he worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections. Joe later started his own business, Wash on Wheels where he washed various structures, trucks, and farm equipment. He also raised German Shepherds and had his pet Rat Terriers. Joe loved his animals and enjoyed training them. Joe suffered with heart troubles for many years and put up a good fight until the end. When Joe was 10 years old, he came down with spotted fever and came close to dying but he was a fighter and made it through. It had been a really close call and each day beyond was a blessing. Joe liked planting flowers and kept his yard just so. He enjoyed reading the Hobbit books, enjoyed the board game Risk, and looking into historical things. One of his favorite pastimes was walking his dogs at the lake and in his younger years he liked squirrel hunting. Joe was competitive, was certain he was always right, could hold a grudge, and be sharp tongued; but also, a thoughtful man who always had a soft spot for the elderly and his close friends.
Joe is survived by his father, Larry (Glynus) Coffey of Jacksonville, IL; mother, Dona (Dwayne) Hibbard of Baylis, IL; sister, Gertie Tenllado; brothers, Chuck (Michelle) Coffey and John Coffey; aunt, Marva Hurst; cousin, Nancy (Phil) Johnson; stepsister, Kyla Overby; and adopted sister, Cree Coffey.
He was preceded in death by uncle, Robert Blacketer; aunt, Ruth Clostermery; grandparents, Marvon Blacketer, Jene Eveland Blacketer, and Gerty Coffey; great grandparents, Charles Clostermery, Pearl Gray Clostermery, Bertha Elliott Eveland, and William Robert Eveland.
