Larry Dean Sharrow

Larry Dean Sharrow, age 77 of Detroit, IL passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield, IL. He was born in Pearl, IL April 13, 1948, to Lowell Lloyd and Viola Lucille Camerer Sharrow. Larry married Linda Kay Jones May 13, 1987, in Springfield, IL and she preceded him in death November 13, 2019.

Larry graduated from East Pike High School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army January 2, 1968. Larry completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and received his AIT training and graduated with high honors. Larry was a member of the 46th Engineers Battalion Company D and was stationed in Vietnam May 1968. He received his honorable discharge at Ft. Lewis, Washington December 14, 1969. Larry attended mechanical training after his discharge and was a self-employed mechanic in Kampsville, IL and drove a truck for Vas Trucking in Jacksonville, IL. Like many of his fellow soldiers, Larry quietly carried the weight of a war that often went unrecognized at home. Larry lived very simply and was a thoughtful and caring person who would give you anything he had and do without himself. He was an animal lover and dearly loved his many cats and dogs over the years. Larry enjoyed watching old westerns, trying his luck at the casino, and going out to eat with friends and family.

Larry is survived by his children and stepchildren, Matt (Deb) Hayes, Jason Sharrow, Beverly Castleberry, Susan (Thomas) Krahn Klasman, Tammy Jo (Thomas) Flynn, and Lena Lynn Lovell; several grandchildren; brother, Jerry Sharrow; sisters, Ida Faye (Bryan) McAllister and Patricia Luella (Terry) Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Lucille Sharrow; wife of 32 years, Linda Sharrow; brothers, Keith Lloyd (Jeannie) Sharrow, Ora Lee (Laura Belle) Sharrow, Lyndle Lowell (Shirley) Sharrow and Johnny Leo Sharrow; sisters, Rosetta Irene (Charles) Waid, Deloris Eilene (Don) Waid, and Norma Margarette Sharrow; sister-in-law, Roma Sharrow; and several nieces and nephews also preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Green Pond Cemetery in Pearl, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Animal Shelter or Green Pond Cemetery.
