Lanny L. (Shorty) Gully, 82 of Richmond, passed away quietly at his home in Richmond on May 5th, 2023. Lanny was born in Barry, IL on October 9th, 1940, the son of Lloyd Gully and Leila (Wright) Gully. He was survived by his son, Joe Gully of Albany, MO., daughter Laurie Gully and her partner Sandi Nolker of Richmond, MO., brother Jerry and his wife Audrey Gully of Barry, IL. and his grandchildren Savannah Gully, Amy Gully and Kinlee Bates among other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews of whom he thought a lot of.
Lanny moved with his family to Richmond in 1955 and was a 1958 graduate of Richmond High School. After graduation he joined the Army where he served for two years. On October 21st, 1961, he married Gloria Todd of Richmond and the union ended in divorce in 1984. Lanny then met his life partner Dorthy (Dot) Kratz of Lexington whom preceded in death on January 27th, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Leila Gully, daughter-in-law Betsy Gully, sister Linda Kay Hively and numerous aunts and uncles.
Lanny worked at Lake City Arsenal for thirty-six years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping with his brother Jerry and staying at their cabin on the Mississippi River. He was also an avid reader of Guns and Ammo magazine and frequented guns shows throughout the Midwest area. Lanny and Dot also loved going to dinner at the Boat. He had a great sense of humor, loved pulling jokes on others and teased the little ones. Lanny will be deeply missed by his friends and relatives. His family greatly appreciates the loving care given to Lanny by Dorthy’s, daughter Angie Jenske and her family.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Additional services, visitation and graveside services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL, with graveside services to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Parklawn Cemetery, Barry, IL.
