Landen James Hettinger, age 17 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born August 18, 2006, in Quincy, IL to Brittany Jackson Smith and James Hettinger.
Landen, or as his friends knew him, L-Boogie was born in Quincy where he attended school through 5th grade. He became part of the Pittsfield community his 6th grade year and was currently a senior at Pittsfield High School. Landen’s favorite school activities over the years were FFA, chorus, home economics and basketball. Landen was an avid basketball fan and was especially fond of the Chicago Bulls. When it came to Michael Jordan or ‘Jordans’ it was game on! He had a very expensive yet very original sense of style. Landen loved music and dancing; many would say he danced his way through life. His music was always so loud that if he hadn’t been born with a hearing impairment, he would have caused himself one. He enjoyed working at Walmart where he was quick to help anyone. Landen enjoyed watching anime and playing board games with his family. He was competitive by nature with an amazing ability to over argue any point even when he was wrong. Landen was born with Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) and became involved with the CCD Smiles organization where he had a profound impact on the lives around him. Through his infectious smile and contagious laugh, he showed people how to be happy and nothing could hold you down. He had a confidence that was unmatched. He will be remembered as small but mighty. What he lacked in size he made up for in personality. Simply put he was David and Goliath all in one. His future plans included working for UPS, obtaining his realtor license, attending ISU and sharing an apartment with his best friend, Jared England. He has touched so many lives in such a short time. He meant the world to his school, community and anyone who met him. Landen will live on forever in those that he loved. Let this be a reminder to always love, laugh and live like Landen.
Landen is survived by his mother, Brittany (Zach) Smith; father, James (Amber) Hettinger; brother, Myles Hettinger; sister, Bryleye Smith; step-brother, Keith Smith; step-sisters, Dru Deskovich and Nia Hill; grandparents, Tracy Stutes, Tim Jackson, Shane Norton, Pamela (Larry) Adkins and James Hettinger, Sr.; great-grandparents, Mary Rainey, Cathy Ottwell and Terry Hettinger; aunts and uncles, Jessica Jackson, Kenny Jackson, Chance (Rikki) Stille-Jackson, Rachael (Sam) Hettinger, Jay May, Shiloh Hettinger, Matthew (Dannica) Hettinger, Lacy (Jason) Renneker, Aaron Smith, Jade (Tracy) Johns, Echo (Michael) Clowers and Jacob (Jeri) Smith; and several great aunts, great uncles and cousins who he was also very close to also survive.
