LaVerne Gary Downing, Jr.

LaVerne Gary Downing, Jr., age 67 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born April 14, 1956, in East Moline, IL to LaVerne Gary and Della Marion VanBuskirk Downing. Gary married Candace Little August 18, 1986, in Griggsville, IL and she survives.

Gary was a 1974 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was an avid book reader and especially loved science fiction. Gary loved spending time with his grandchildren and family and will be dearly missed by all.

Gary is survived by his mother, Della Hull of Pittsfield, IL; wife of 37 years, Candace Downing of Pittsfield, IL; daughter, April (fiancé, Brandon Owen) Troxell of New Canton, IL; seven grandchildren, Tandryk Owen, Kelton Owen, Destiny Troxell, Hailey Troxell, Isabella Troxell, Tyler Owen and Kasen Owen; brothers, Fred (Linda) Lothridge, Rex Lothridge and David (Darlene) Downing; and sisters, Leota Wilcox, Kathy (Rick) Hewitt and Marion (Curtis) Arnold.

He was preceded in death by father, LaVerne Gary Downing; and stepfather, Fred Lothridge.

Cremation rites have been accorded and funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
