Kenneth L. Sargent

Kenneth Sargent, age 92, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL. He was born July 22, 1929, in Griggsville, IL to Earl Kenneth and Julia Helen Johnson Sargent. Kenneth married Eula Shelton and to this union three sons were born; he later married Etta Shelton and she preceded him in death April 10, 2021.

Kenny was a 1948 graduate of Griggsville High School and enlisted in the United States Army in March 1951. He worked as a cable splicer in San Francisco and later in the Philippines during the Korean War.  After his honorable discharge he moved back to Pike County and began working for Trio Manufacturing and later worked at the tool & die manufacturer in Pittsfield located in the old Brown Shoe Factory and was a manager of the tool & die department at Killark Manufacturing where he retired from after many years of service. After a time, J.L. Wade called, and Kenny went back to work at Trio part-time until they closed. He did many side jobs including building a local church steeple and helping with projects around the county.  Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a talented woodworking craftsman. He could often be found watching his grandchildren in sporting events and took great pride in cheering them on. In later years he and Etta enjoyed traveling the United States first in the travel trailer and later driving. Kenny was a kind-hearted man who never talked ill of anyone, never raised his voice and loved his family dearly; he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Kenny is survived by sons, Kenneth Michael (Paula) Sargent of Griggsville, IL, Curt (Carrie) Sargent of Fisher, LA and Jason (Arlene) Sargent of Griggsville, IL; stepson, Craig (Kim) Thompson of Pacific, MO ; step-daughters, Brenda Kramer of Pittsfield, IL and Julie (Michael) Benad of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Gretchen Sargent, Gregory Sargent, Kelsey (Levi) Walters, Macey (Cole) McEuen, Garrett Sargent, Alayna Sargent, Justin Sargent, Brad Sargent and Katelynn Sargent; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Helen Sargent; wife, Etta Sargent; and step-son, Gregory Sargent.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 11:30 AM at Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
