Karen Leola Smith

Karen Leola Smith, age 82 of Sanford, NC passed away September 17, 2024, at her home.

She was born November 10, 1941, in Pittsfield, IL to Jimmy and Charlene Smith.

Karen graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1959.  She attended Illinois State University.

Karen worked in Missouri, Michigan, Kansas and later years in Pittsfield.

Karen was an avid reader, birdwatcher and enjoyed playing KenKen. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling, especially to the Western States. She traveled to Europe a few times.

Karen is survived by her sister, Janice (John) Geisendorfer of Sanford, NC; two nephews, Kevin Geisendorfer and Eric (Krista) Geisendorfer of Hamburg, NJ; and great nephew, Matthew Geisendorfer of Hamburg, NJ.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlene Smith and father, Jimmy Smith. 

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday September 24, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Taylor-Martin Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Taylor-Martin Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
