Karen F. (McIntire) Brown

Karen F. (McIntire) Brown, age 84, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester, IL.  She was born March 9,1942 in Pittsfield, IL to Henry O. and Mary (Vickroy) McIntire. Karen married the love of her life, James (Jim) Brown on August 20, 1960, at the Detroit Christian Church and he preceded her in death.

Karen graduated from Griggsville High School in 1960.  Karen was always focused on family and community.  She was very active in the Griggsville United Methodist Church throughout her life including roles as youth leader, church secretary, funeral lunch organizer and decades of support for the bazaar each November. 

Karen worked at various jobs to assist in supporting the family including an in-home childcare to many neighborhood youth, a yard mowing business, Griggsville School aide, administrative support at the Griggsville Vet Clinic, and cashier at the Meats and More Market. She was also in charge of the care of the farrowing operation when her sons started the commercial swine business, KCB Genetics. 

Karen could be counted on to answer any local call for assistance to host a wedding or baby shower.  She maintained lifelong friendships with a card club group that started with many people from her high school graduation class. She was an active member of HCE and enjoyed needlecraft, presenting many programs and hosting at her home.  She was very proud of her immaculate home on the McIntire family farm.

She loved traveling and fishing with Jim, especially in Grand Isle, Louisiana.  They went on many trips over the years including Canada, California, Yellowstone National Park, Nevada, Maine and Wisconsin. 

She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Peggy) Brown of Pittsfield, IL and Chad (Sondra) Brown of Mercer, WI; three sisters-in-law, Diane Brown, Jo-an McIntire, Lilly Kimbell of Clinton, KY; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jim Brown; her parents, Henry and Mary McIntire; and all seven siblings.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Bethel Cemetery in Griggsville, IL. Per Karen’s wishes there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Bethel Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
