Junior Walker Obituary

Junior Dale Walker, age 91, of New Canton, IL passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  Junior was born on September 19, 1932, in Spring Creek Township to Gerald and Julia (Smith) Walker.  He married Maxine JoAnn Foster on April 6, 1957, in Hannibal, MO by Reverend Golden, she preceded him in death on August 21, 2023.

Junior graduated from Barry High School and soon after was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War. He was a Corporal during the war and was honorably discharged in 1960.  When he returned home, he began his career in construction, working with a company out of Louisiana, MO building houses.  He helped build homes in both Pike County MO and IL.  Junior finished his working career at Electric Wheel, which was Titan Wheel when he retired.


Junior was a family man and enjoyed taking his family camping, they made many memories on their vacations throughout the United States.  He also coached Little League when the boys were young.  He planted a beautiful vegetable garden every year, and enjoyed watching Westerns on TV, along with reading Western and Amish books.  His real passion was fishing, he lived and breathed it, always enjoying his fishing trips in Florida.  Junior was a master mechanic, and he could fix anything.  He was always helping others out with their vehicles, whether it be changing a tire or fetching gas for someone stranded.  Junior was a very giving man and was always ready to help anyone in need.  He will be most remembered for being a great storyteller who loved to tease people, in his onery and a bit mischievous way.  Junior will be missed by all who knew him.

Junior is survived by his sons, Jim (Kay) Walker of New Canton, IL, Steve (Linda) Walker of New Canton, IL, Doug Walker of New Canton, IL, Chuck (Beth) Walker of New Canton, IL, Jerry (Sara) Walker of Quincy, IL, and Joe Walker of New Canton, IL; daughter, Julie ( George) Bainter of Barry, IL; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother John (Rosemary) Walker; sister, Twila (Gene) Smith; half-sisters, Linda Coleman, and Dollie Sexton; sister-in-law Janice Walker, brother-in-law Jack Hively; in-laws, Richard (Amy) Foster; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mabel Walker; brothers, Don Walker, Owen (Connie) Walker and Lyle (Dixie) Walker; sisters, Minnie Hively and Della Minear; and several in-laws.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL.  Visitation will take place prior to the service from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Samuel Taylor Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left to the family at  Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL is handling the arrangements.
