John P. Wanick

John Paul Wanick, age 70 of Griggsville, IL passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born February 6, 1955, in Pearl, IL to William Richard and Sarah Martha Owen Wanick. John married Vickey Lynn McDaniels October 21, 1974, in Alton, IL and she preceded him in death October 1, 2008.

John grew up in Pearl, IL and worked at local farms starting at an early age.  He later worked at Tate Cheese as a night supervisor for over twenty years.  John finished his working career at Callender Construction as a machine operator.  In his early years, John enjoyed fishing, mushrooming and wood working.  He loved to attend auctions and was a coin collector.  His greatest joy was his family especially his grandchildren, John loved his family dearly.  He lived his life the way he wanted and will always be remembered as a hardworking, humble family man.

John is survived by daughters, Candice (Eric) Maechling of Hawkpoint, MO and Carrie (Chris) Taylor of Fort Madison, IA; grandchildren, Derick and Abigail Maechling; brothers, Charlie Wanick and Ralph Wanick; sisters, Billy (Phil) Williams, Florence (Dave) King and Mary Buchanan; mother-in-law Kay Deucher; in-laws, Rickey McDaniels, Lee McDaniels, Charlie McDaniels, James McDaniels, Billie Parker, Terri McDaniels, Candy Ambrose and Starr Lippincott; and several nieces and nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sarah Wanick; wife, Vickey Wanick; brothers, Allard Lee Wanick and Junior Wanick; and sister Rosie Chiatello-Witt.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday August 8, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home with visitation held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Miller Cemetery in Pearl, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
