JoAnn (DeLong) Barton

JoAnn Barton, age 91 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield, IL. She was born December 15, 1931, at her Grandmother Quickert’s home in Alton, IL to Allen and Esther Quickert DeLong. JoAnn married Glenn Barton June 15, 1952, at the Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill and he preceded her in death January 20, 2019.

JoAnn graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and attended Western Illinois University, graduating in 1952 with degrees in Business Education and English. She began her teaching career in Milton, IL and later substitute taught in both Pittsfield and Pleasant Hill districts. JoAnn and Glenn lived for over 49 years in the old Cold Water School which they remodeled before moving to Pittsfield. JoAnn loved working in her garden and tending to the flowers in her yard and spent countless hours volunteering at Illini Community Hospital. She was a member of Pittsfield United Methodist Church for over 50 years, past member of Home Extension, former 4H leader, member of Madonna Fellowship and sang in Chancel Choir. JoAnn enjoyed attending all of her children and grandchildren’s activities over the years.

JoAnn is survived by daughter, Susan (David) Worrell of Laguna Vista, TX; sons, Michael (Maggie) Barton of Springfield, IL and Don Barton of Quincy, IL; granddaughters, Angela (Nathan) Dimitry of Belgium and Amanda (Derek) Radcliffe of Georgetown, IN; grandsons, Justin (Angie) Barton of Kansas City, MO and Allen (Iulia) Barton of Mahomet, IL; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Esther DeLong; husband of 66 years, Glenn Barton; son, Ronald Barton; and brother, Russell DeLong.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 27, 2023, at Pittsfield United Methodist Church with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Methodist Church Chancel Choir or West Cemetery.
