Janice Rae Mabry Harris, 82, of Pittsfield, Illinois, (formerly of Olive Hill, Kentucky), passed away May 25, 2023, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.
Jan was born May 28, 1940, a daughter of the late Enoch and Ruby Duncan Mabry, in Gimlet, Ky. She married Raymond Catron Harris on July 2, 1960, and spent 61 years together before his passing in August 2021.
She is survived by her children, Shanna and Jerry Edison of Pittsfield, Illinois, Scott and Pam Harris of Richmond, Kentucky, Stephanie and John Stamper of Morehead, Kentucky, and grandchildren: James Catron (and Catie) Harris, Christopher Aaron (and Courtney) Edison, Brandon Ray (and Tori) Edison, Matthew Scott (and Meredith) Harris, and Megan Nicole Harris Littleton, and step-grandchildren: Latysha (and Daniel) Potter and Harley Marsici. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Lee (Jenny) M. Lewis of Skokie, IL, and brother, JR and Phyllis Burchett Mabry of Peebles, OH. Her brothers and sisters-in-law, Chester Price Harris, Jr. of Elliott County, Kentucky, and Elwood and Helen Harris, of Frankfort Kentucky.
She enjoyed spending time with and hearing from her great-grandchildren: Preston Lee Littleton, Grant James Harris, Luke Joseph Harris, Raylon Catron Littleton, Maverick Lawrence Harris, Peyton Renee Edison, Caroline Rae Edison, Mallory Margaret Harris, and Bryant Kane Edison, and step great-grandchildren: Jake Rowan Potter, Griffin Layne Potter, and Emry Claire Potter.
Jan leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that will sadly mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Maxine Wallace and Wilma Jean Wilson, her brothers-in-law, Talmadge Kendall Harris and Charlie D Harris, Larry Lewis, and sisters-in-law, Thelma Horton Harris, Kay Farley Harris, and Barbara Harris Marshall, niece, Heather Harris Bruiser, and her parents-in law, Chester Price and Martha Vesta Catron Harris.
Jan was a graduate of Olive Hill High School and graduated from Morehead State University. She taught high school business classes for over 27 years in the Carter County School District, and then worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Olive Hill for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church of Olive Hill and treasurer for the Faye Francis Lewis Missionary Circle. She was treasurer of the Olive Hill Historical Society, now the Center for Arts and Education. She worked with high school youth in the Future Business Leaders of America during her tenure as a teacher.
Family visitation will be at 9 am on Saturday, June 10, 2023, Duvall and Moore Funeral Home in Olive Hill, KY. Friends may visit at 10 am, and the service will be held at 1 pm. Dave Shanklin will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Clark Cemetery located on Route 504 in Elliott County, Kentucky.
Pallbearers are Jamie Harris, Christopher Edison, Brandon Edison, Matt Harris, Preston Lee Littleton, Chad Jason Lewis, Harley Bailey and Will Harris.
Honorary pallbearers are Talmadge K (Tally) Harris, Jr., Kevin Littleton Harris, Chester Price Harris, Jr., Elwood Harris and Michael Bailey.
