Janice Sue Gilliland, age 75, of Quincy, IL passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on February 5, 1948 in Pittsfield, IL to James Avery and Iris Shaw Ervin. She married Michael Gilliland on February 24, 1968 in Griggsville, IL and he survives.
Janice graduated from Griggsville High School in 1966 and went on to work various jobs. She worked at Motorola, Chaddock, and Hyvee. Her favorite job was working at Walmart and she later retired from there. Janice was of Christian faith and in earlier years, she attended Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church with her family. She was very artistic and creative and enjoyed sewing and word searches. Her favorite hobby was shopping and she loved Christmas and Elvis. Janice and Michael also liked traveling and visited many places including Hawaii, Memphis, and Washington D.C. She was a very loving, gentle, and caring woman with a big heart. She was considered to be the peacemaker of the family but could be feisty when warranted. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Michael Gilliland; sons, Ryan (Jamie) Gilliland of California, MO and Michael (Trenton) Gilliland, Jr. of Chicago, IL; daughter, Stacey (Warren) Suane of Somerset, KY; three grandchildren, Matthew, Maggie, and Quincy Gilliland; two brothers, Jack (Jenny) Ervin of Mt. Sterling, IL and Jim Ervin of Griggsville, IL; sister, Jane Holder of Meredosia, IL and her twin sister, Janet McCulloch of Quincy, IL; brother-in-law, Henry (Sharon) Kay of Quincy, IL; sister-in-law, Diane Gilliland of Quincy, IL and Debbie (Fred) Pease of Hampshire, IL; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Chloe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Avery and Iris Ervin; grandchildren, Charlotte, Samuel, James, and Grace Gilliland; in-laws, Marion and Edna Gilliland; sister-in-law, Barbara Rost and Florence Millspaugh; and her beloved cats, Lucy and Tigger.
Services will be held privately and interment will be at Griggsville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Griggsville Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
