Jackie Lee Bristow, age 91, of Milton, IL passed away Friday, July 26, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born February 5, 1933, in Milton, IL to William Edgar and Julia Luretta Galloway Bristow. Jack married the love of his life, Mary Jean Goldman February 22, 1953, at Milton Christian Church and she preceded him in death March 13, 2018.
Jack was a 1951 graduate of Milton High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1953. He served his country as a Supply Sergeant and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Jack was a lifelong member of Milton Christian Church and was a dedicated servant who was a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and treasurer for his church. He worked for Hardwick Construction, was a FS salesman and managed USS Steel and ran a tv repair shop in his spare time with Jerry Miller. He and Mac McGlauchlen went out on their own to start East Pike Farm Service Center and he also owned and operated Bristow’s Garage. In later years, he sold life insurance and worked for the Village of Milton at the water treatment plant. Jack was an avid collector of Mustangs and loved spending time outdoors fishing, hunting quail and boating on the river or at Lake of the Ozarks with his family. He was a member of the men’s bowling league, cub scout leader, baseball coach and volunteer firefighter for Milton. He was a member of Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 and a past Corn Carnival Parade Marshall. Jack was a caring, giving man who was always ready to help anyone in need but was also known to tease and kid around. He loved his family deeply and always enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren attending their activities.
Jack is survived by sons, Jeff (Jan) Bristow of Paducah, KY, Doug (Kim) Bristow of Pittsfield, IL; daughters, Lori Hoover of Detroit, IL and Kelli (Daron) Barry of Liberty, IL; grandchildren, Christopher Hoover, Jodi (Tom) Hoover-O’Connor, Jacob Bristow, Hannah (Dallyn) Turner, Bryan Bristow, Alyssa (Blake) Clowers, Megan (Chase) Vose, Halie (Kevin Pigg) Daniel and Bradley Daniel; and great grandchildren, Lennox Rush, Kallen Pigg, Beau Vose, Hattie Vose and two more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Luretta Bristow; his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Jean Bristow; two daughters in infancy, Janet and Janice; son-in-law, Steve Hoover; and brother, David Bristow.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Milton Christian Church with interment to follow at Smith Cemetery in Milton, IL. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, July 29, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Great River Honor Flight or Milton Christian Church.
