Helen ‘Jean’ Lish, age 78, of Barry, IL passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. Jean was born August 23, 1944, in Hannibal, MO to Albert Henry and Stella V. Whittley Flynn. She married Jack Lee Lish on March 30, 1968, in Quincy, IL and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2015.
She grew up in the Hannibal and Quincy area. Jean worked at Motorola with several siblings and always looked forward to the Motorola picnics. Jean was a self-taught cake decorator being certified by Wilton Cake Company. She decorated cakes for weddings and milestones for all of her family and friends. Jean was employed at The Pastry Box in Hannibal, MO, and then to work at Krogers in Hannibal, MO. Jean next became the caretaker for several loved ones when they needed her most. She loved to travel, and has been to every state but Alaska, with her husband Jack. She also shared that love of travel with her thirteen grandchildren in a van to Florida and Colorado, thus making many memories with all of them to cherish. Jean will be remembered as one who enjoyed life, having fun and helping others to enjoy life. She loved to mow grass, was a great roller-skater, and an avid bicycle rider. Words that describe Jean include loving, caring, admirable, strong, independent and truly lived for the love of her family. Jean was of the Christian faith.
Jean is survived by her son, Robin Lish; daughters, Jamie (John) Wilson of Barry, IL and Linda (Andrew) Hubbard of Barry, IL; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert ‘Bud’ (Clara) Flynn of Isabella, MO and Sam (Billie) Pipkin of Quincy, IL; sister, Mary Jackson of Palmyra, MO; brother-in-law, Mel Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lee Lish; son, Ricky Lee Lish I; two brothers, Butch (Barbara) Flynn and Skip (Bonnie) Pipkin; brother-in-law, Derril Jackson; and five sisters, Alice (Glen) Rupert, Ilene Bennett, Sue Ward, Chub Powell and Marge ‘Peg’ (Rex) Zaerr.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023, at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with visitation held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Blessing Hospice. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
