Helen Lee Aiken, age 85 of Pittsfield, IL passed away in her home Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was born in Pittsfield, IL on April 13, 1938, to Donald Lee and Meradel Sanderson Winston. Helen first married Harold Capps and to this union three children were born. Helen married Curtis Aiken June 20, 1980, in Pittsfield, IL and he preceded her in death January 10, 2010.
Helen was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1969 when she took over the Green Acres Motel from her mother. Helen continued the family legacy as owner and operator until her retirement in 1997. Helen taught piano lessons for many years, had a passion for reading, and took great pride in her flower garden. After retirement she took up golfing, was an avid bridge player in multiple clubs, and always enjoyed her porch time or “5 o’clock wine time” with friends and family. She also belonged to Book Club and was a longtime member of Old Orchard Country Club where she served on the board. Helen was a spunky, opinionated lady with a huge and giving heart who will be deeply missed by friends and family. Many will remember her famous line, “I feel duty bound to tell you how to do or what you should do!”
