Harold 'Putter' Capps

Harold ‘Putter’ Capps, age 85, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, MO.  He was born on November 23, 1936 in Pittsfield, IL to Merle and Marguerite Belford Capps.  He married Helen Winston and to this union three children were born.  He went on to marry Mary Catherine Smith Willard and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2018.

Harold graduated from Pittsfield High School.  He worked various jobs but spent most of his life working as a truck driver and retired in the early 2000s.  He was a member of The Elk Lodge, Masonic Lodge #790 A.F. & A.M., Pike County Shriners, and Moose Lodge 420 and in earlier years, he enjoyed hunting.  Harold was a very social person and enjoyed his morning coffee meetings as well as his afternoons at various places in the county.  He was a character and enjoyed making people laugh but mostly enjoyed getting a reaction out of people.  He didn’t know a stranger and loved good conversation.

He is survived by a son, Dean (Nancy) Capps of Pittsfield, IL; daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Cox of Monroe, NC; three grandchildren, Adam (Juli) Cox of Kansas City, MO, Sarah (Robby) Denbow of Norman, OK, and Jeremy (Bayley) Capps of Liberty, MO; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Robert Capps of Pittsfield, IL; sisters, Donna (Wendell) Hall of Pittsfield, IL and Pat Marksbury of Moline, IL; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Marguerite Capps; daughter, Lila Capps; brother, Glenn Capps; and sister, Lela Morris.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment will be held at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Moose Lodge 420 or the Pike County Shriners.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
