George O'Neill Obituary

George F. O’Neill, age 87, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  He was born on April 23, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Byron and Margaret Perry O’Neill.  He married Dorothy Franklin and to this union were three children.  He later married Maureen Meyers and she preceded him in death.  He married Laura ‘Lollie’ Sewell Ruble and she survives.

George served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and was honorably discharged.  George worked as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit (CTA) and he eventually worked his way up the ladder becoming an electrician for them.  After 30 years of service, he retired and moved to Baylis with his wife, Maureen.  After her passing, he became the door greeter and key maker at the Pittsfield Walmart where he became acquainted with Lollie as they both worked there at the same time.  George was a member of the Pittsfield St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He enjoyed woodworking and had his own workshop where he made the family chairs and tables.  He and Lollie made coffee tables together and she would place the tiles and he would help her finish.  George being the handyman he was, could build a house with his vast knowledge of electrical, carpentry, and plumbing.  He also worked on cars until they became computerized.  George was a kind, sweet, and likable man.  He was shy and quiet but liked a good conversation.

He is survived by his wife, Lollie; son, Michael G. O’Neill of Louisiana, MO; daughter, Kathleen G. O’Neill of Melrose Park, IL; stepsons, Richie Ruble, Johnny Ruble, Tony Meyers, Jeff Meyers, Jimmy Meyers, Danny Meyers, and Michael Meyers; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Margaret O’Neill; son, Daniel P. O’Neill; first wife, Dorothy Franklin; second wife, Maureen Meyers; stepdaughter, Margie A. Manson; brother, Donald O’Neill; and two sisters, Marie Gioia and Dolores Ebbert.
