George W. Hoos

George Wesley Hoos, age 65 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at his home. He was born March 22, 1960, in Pittsfield, IL to Edward and Rena Mildred Wackerman Hoos. George married Loretta A. Hawkins April 7, 1989, in Louisiana, MO and she survives.

George was a 1978 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Over the years, he worked at Walmart, Kroger, and farmed on the side. George later returned to the halls of PHS and worked there for over 30 years until his retirement. In his early years, he loved hunting deer and rabbit, enjoyed spending time outdoors farming and cutting wood. He was an avid lottery player who loved playing scratchers…and he did quite well with his winnings. George was a jovial guy who loved kidding around, telling jokes, and gave out several nicknames to friends over the years; if you received one, you knew you were a true friend. George will be deeply missed by family and friends, especially his 5:00 AM coffee buddies.

George is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Loretta Hoos; children, Sonia Johnson, Roxanne Dehart, John S. Whiteman, Jr., and Carrisa Petruzzi; grandchildren, Dillon Johnson and several others; great grandchildren, Mila, Aria, and several others; numerous nieces and nephews; and his pet squirrels also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rena Hoos; brothers, Carl Hoos and John Hoos; and sister, Evelyn Griffeth.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Saukee Nation. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
