Geneva I. Wendler, age 106, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, in Pittsfield, IL. She was born August 15, 1915, in Lincoln County, MO to Floyd and Ethel Ogden Hall. Geneva married Herb Wendler March 27, 1960, in Jacksonville, IL and he preceded her in death August 20, 2013.
Geneva was a member of Pittsfield United Methodist Church since 1941. She was an office manager at Mineral Springs Hospital in Louisiana, MO and a secretary for the architect who built Illini Community Hospital. Geneva gave of her time serving the Red Cross in several aspects; serving as Executive Secretary for Pike County Red Cross, volunteering to the Midwestern Area Red Cross of St. Louis, where she received an award for her service, served on Bi-state Council of Midwestern Area Red Cross and was instrumental in the purchase of the Red Cross building in Pike County. She enjoyed playing golf and was a charter member of Old Orchard Country Club. Geneva also belonged to three bridge clubs, enjoyed needlepoint and liked to read. She loved cookouts with family and friends and loved to take care of her home and family and was lovingly known as MeMe. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Geneva is survived by daughter, Sherolyn Biddle Haskins (Jack) Brennecke; four grandchildren, Debbie (David) Barton of Nebo, IL, Bill (Kimberlee) Haskins of St. Ansgar, IA, Krissie (Jason) Buss of New Berlin, IL and Terry (Ellen) Haskins of Woodbury, MN; seven great-grandchildren, Abby Rheinecker of Quincy, IL, Amy (Bobby) Harris of Pittsfield, IL, Dr. Jennifer Barton of Laguna Beach, CA, Molly Caughlin of Pittsfield, IL, Austin (Emma) Barton of Champaign, IL, Mitchell (Mercedez) Barton of Nebo, IL and Sam Haskins of Woodbury, MN; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Liam Rheinecker, Lily Rheinecker, Luca Rheinecker, Bobby Harris, Ryan Harris, Emory Harris and Ella Caughlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ethel Hall; loving husband of 53 years, Herb Wendler; brother, John Hall; great-granddaughter in infancy, Kami Haskins; and aunt, Olivia Ogden who raised her.
Graveside service will be held Monday, April 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM at West Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pittsfield United Methodist Church or Pittsfield West Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
