Gary L. Walker

Gary Lee Walker, age 66, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 25, 1955 in Pittsfield, IL to Owen and Connie Dorsey Walker. He married Judy Daniels on January 17, 1998 at Pittsfield Methodist Chapel and she survives.

Gary was of Christian faith and grew up in the Pittsfield United Methodist Church. He was a 1973 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Gary worked at Kroger until it closed and then he went to work at the family business, Walker Repair Shop. That is where he became a small engine mechanic and continued this work until his health would not permit him to continue. Gary was a soft spoken and caring person with a huge heart and was always ready to help someone in need. He had a quick smile and a positive attitude and the glass was always ½ full with Gary. He was a lifetime member of North American Hunting Club and NRA and always loved the outdoors. In his earlier years he was an avid whitetail deer hunter and enjoyed fishing. Gary often listened and talked on his CB radio where his handle was ‘Tex Ritter’. He enjoyed woodworking and enjoyed fixing things and putting together jigsaw puzzles and loved to do snow removal. Gary loved playing with his grandkids and dancing to his favorite song, Willie Nelson’s ‘On The Road Again’. He could often be found being silly with his grandkids.

Gary is survived by his wife, Judy Walker; sons, Jeremy (Lora) Shepherd of Barry, IL and Tyler Shepherd of Griggsville, IL; daughter, Nicole (Matthew) Bowen of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Macee Jo Shepherd, Declan Bowen and Paislee Bowen; sisters, Brenda (David) Christianer of Pittsfield, IL and Janice (Gary) Cox of Pittsfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Connie Walker; and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home with visitation prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The family asks friends and family to wear flannel to honor Gary. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
