Gary Hittner Obituary

Gary W. Hittner, age 73, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  He was born on March 22, 1948 in Pittsfield, IL to John and Margaret Newman Hittner.  He married Angela Williams on November 24, 1990 in Pittsfield, and she survives.

Gary graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1966 then went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps serving for 3 years from 1967 until 1970.  After his honorable discharge from the USMC, he went on to join the Painters Union painting bridges and working with his father.  He later joined the International Union of Boilermakers working for over 30 years and retiring at age 56.  Gary was a member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge #420, American Legion Post #152, and a past member of the Old Orchard County Club.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.  He loved frying fish all year long and having get togethers.  Every morning he had his coffee then made a trip into town to make his rounds and catch up.  He also really liked being home and taking care of his yard.  After meeting his wife, Gary became an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching the games.  He was a very trusting and good friend and was protective over those he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Angela Hittner; sister, Joanna (Fred) Engelmann of Baylis, IL; mother-in-law, Nancy Dwinnells of Pittsfield, IL; sister-in-law, Marcia McGuire of Maysville, MO; and nieces and nephews, Brett Yokem, Brenda Jones, Debbie Timbrook, Dick Guthrie, Joely Rightnowar, Chevi Koeller, Lori Schile, Kent Harter, Jody Brite, Clint Hittner, Camilla Teel, Lisa Wade, Julie Scandalis, Cindy Reveal, Sara Tompkins, Andy Tompkins, Tyler Fort, Arica Fort, and Nathan McGuire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Hittner; sisters, Linda Yokem and Judy Harter; brothers, John Hittner, Jr., Darrel Hittner, and John Charles Hittner in infancy; and a nephew, Kevin Hittner.
