Gary Brannan, age 84, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Barry Healthcare and Senior Living. He was born February 14, 1942, in Eldred, IL to Bert and Ruth Hyde Brannan. Gary first married Carol Norton and to this union they welcomed two sons; he later married Sharon Storck Stecker November 17, 1990, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pittsfield and she preceded him in death September 18, 2020.
Gary was a graduate of Carrolton High School and worked for a farmer in Eldred; he later drove a truck for Jones Poultry in Pearl, worked at Pillsbury in Florence, the North Florence Elevator, and then at Illinois Valley Paving until his retirement. In early years, he was a dirt racing and NASCAR follower. Gary and Sharon were avid gardeners and canned their bountiful harvest. They enjoyed attending country music shows and traveling together to Branson, Colorado, Las Vegas, and Maryland. Gary and Sharon also attended every parade and festival in Pike County. Gary was a member of the Western Illinois Tractor Club and will be remembered as a hardworking man who was always happy to share a good story or a quick one-liner.
Gary is survived by sons, Terry (Becky) Brannan of Pearl, IL and Ronell (DeeDee) Brannan of South Roxana, IL, and Torry (Judy) Stecker of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Tasha Brannan Kirk of Pittsfield, Trent (Melissa) Brannan of Pittsfield, Travis (Courtney) Brannan of Bloomingdale, GA, Kimberly (Lucas) Stecker of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Hunter Stecker of Pittsfield; great grandchildren, Ryan Tunget, Lainey (J.J. Miller) Kirk, Lukas Kirk, Westin Buss, Kolt Brannan, Waylon Kirk, Jasper Brannan, Journee Brannan, Tessa Brannan, Amelia Brannan, and Calla Brannan; great grandson, Jasper Miller; sister, Meg Pekar; sisters-in-law, Marcine, Pam, Anita, and Nancy; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Ruth Brannan; wife, Sharon Brannan; and sisters, Lois Childers and Mary Lou Tozar.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to East Pike Fire Protection District.
