Garry Lynn Lawber, age 78, of Stover, MO passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, MO. He was born on March 25, 1943, in Perry, IL to Carl and Martha Jane Butler Lawber. He married Ida Mae Hull on January 31, 1975, in Pittsfield, IL and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2014.
Garry graduated from Perry High School and joined the United States Army in August 1965 and served his country as Sergeant E-6 until his honorable discharge in February 1969. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a farmer and in the construction business for the rest of his life. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and loved coon hunting. Garry enjoyed raising his garden and also flexed his green thumb with flower gardening. He always put his family first and dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren who always brought a sparkle to his eye. Garry was a loving and kindhearted man who was always willing to lend a helping hand without judgment.
Garry is survived by one son, Robert (Tina) Grimsley of Canton, MO; three daughters, Jane Lawber of Versailles, MO, Sara Volz of Alton, IL and Theresa Cawthon of Hannibal, MO; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl (Cindy) Lawber, Jr. of Pleasant Hill, IL and Ken Lawber of Dallas, TX; and two sisters, Margo (Merlin) Winchell of Pleasant Hill, IL and Sandy Ragan of Quincy, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha Lawber, Sr. and son, Andy Grimsley.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with interment to follow at Dorsey Cemetery in Perry, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
