Frederick Edmonds Obituary

Frederick Curtis Edmonds, age 72, of Springfield, Il passed away on June 5, 2024, at Memorial Hospital.  Fred was born June 29, 1951, in Springfield, the son of Frederick J. Edmonds and Marguerite L. Edmonds.  He was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area, graduating from Southeast High School then working for 33 years at Honeywell Hobbs.  Fred was never one to sit idle for too long, therefore immediately after retiring, he worked as a stagehand for Audio Technical Services (ATS) and was a union member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local #138.

Fred was known by many in the Springfield music scene.  Fred, who was quiet and reserved by nature, came alive when his drumsticks were in his hands.  He was a founding member of Starry Eye, a popular area band in the late 70s and 80s.  More recently, he was a member of Off The Wall, entertaining many at music festivals and bars and lovingly known as FredBird and Fredrico.

Fred intensely loved his family.  He is survived by his two children, Chris (Molly) Edmonds of Chatham, IL and Brittany Edmonds of Springfield.  He was an active part of the everyday lives of his grandchildren, Frederick Rhythm, Sophia Marie, Christopher Joseph, Jack, and Charlie.  In every conversation with Fred, he reveled in talking about his grandkids.  He is also survived by his three sisters, Sharon (Jim) Allen of Chatham, IL, Paula (Merrill) Roberts of Springfield, Gayla Clinton of Oakford, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Marquerite, and his brother, Rickey.

Fred will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends.  He truly loved each of them-and if you knew him, you knew it.  He will be missed dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. As Fred loved local music and sharing the gift of music with others, the family asks that you go out and enjoy local bands performing at upcoming events. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
