Freda M. Akers

Freda M. Akers, age 85, of Barry, IL, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield, IL. She was born October 30, 1938, in New Canton, IL, the daughter of James “Leslie” and Flora Belle Weeks Dixon. She married Ronald “Ronnie” Akers on September 3, 1960, in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1992.

Freda enjoyed visiting with friends and family and hosting family dinners on Sundays. She especially always looked forward to preparing the annual family meal every Thanksgiving. In her younger years she loved vegetable gardening and tending to her yard. She also enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles. Freda had a strong Christian faith having studied and read the Bible multiple times. She could be found every Sunday morning in front of the T.V. going to church.

Freda is survived by her children, Randall “Randy” (Melissa) Coultas and Bonna (Tony) Gratton, all of Barry; three grandchildren, Chris Coultas, Shelly (Dean) Moyer and Scott (Julie) Garrett; twelve great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Devin, Ronnie, Dayleigh, Reagan, Josie, Tya, Kenzie, Belle, Brooke, Brantley and Raylan; seven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one brother-in-law, Ray Seyl. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Katherine Williams, Raymond Dixon, Truman Dixon, Freeman Dixon, Evelyn Clinging and Charlotte Seyl.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, December 29, 2023, at Green Pond Cemetery, near Pearl, IL. There will be no formal visitation. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels in Quincy.
