Fern C. (Hagen) Schlieper

Fern Christina (Hagen) Schlieper, age 96 of Auburn, IL and formerly of Nebo, IL passed away at her daughter’s home Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was born February 21, 1929, in rural Nebo, IL to William and Lessie Graham Hagen.

Fern lived in Pleasant Hill and Nebo until she went to live with her daughter, Carolyn in her later years. Fern was a homemaker that had a great talent in cooking, sewing, quilting, and gardening, especially her beloved African violets and orchids. She was a 50+ year member of Eastern Star serving as Grand Matron twice.

Fern is survived by daughters, Christina (Richard) Albers of Virden, IL and Carolyn (Donald) Long of Auburn, IL; granddaughters, Christenah Haefner, Amy Brown, Sarah Koren, Erin Mauzy, Letitia McCarthy, Claire Newenham, and Melanie Crown; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and son-in-law, Roger Newenham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lessie Graham Hagen; brother, Larry C. Hagen; daughter, Connie K. Newenham; and granddaughter, Rachel F. Long.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Calhoun County. Memorials are suggested to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
