Elza E. Collins, age 77 of Mt. Sterling, IL passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home in Mt. Sterling, IL. He was born November 27, 1948, in Mountain Home, AR to Elmer Lloyd and Faye Ola Taber Collins. Elza married Carol Marshall August 30, 1975, in Mt. Sterling, IL and she survives.
Elza was a logger for his entire career with the exception of a brief stint in the construction industry. He was an avid fisherman, who especially enjoyed bass fishing. Elza loved spending time outdoors working in the yard and tending to his garden. He was a family-oriented man who loved to joke and play with his grandchildren and could be counted on to teach them about hard work and life lessons.
Elza is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Carol Collins; children, Brett (Dawn) Bemis, Krystal (Roger) Roan, Scott (Donna) Bemis, Tammy Large, Patricia Forster, Kay (Rex) Powell, Kathy (David) Davis, Jessica Collins, and David (Lisa) Collins; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Kemper, Anna Goudschoal, Sharon (Dennis) Hillyer, and Judy (Robert) Phelps; and sisters-in-law, Bobbie Collins and Freda Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Faye Collins; brothers, Bill Collins, Donald Collins, Elmer R. Collins, and Gerald Collins; brother-in-law, Ed Kemper and sister-in-law, Frances Collins; and sons-in-law, Curtis Large and Todd Stambaugh.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and a graveside service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Mound Cemetery in rural Timewell. Memorials are suggested to be made to Cass Schuyler Hospice. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
